Amendment challenge, federal criminal statute that prohibits, as material support for terrorist
activity, training of members of a group designated by the Secretary of State as a Foreign
Terrorist Organization on the peaceful uses of humanitarian and international law).
- Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, 130 S. Ct. 876 (2010) (invalidating,
as an abridgement of core political speech rights protected by the First Amendment, federal
statutory limits on independent expenditures by corporations and unions made for the
specific purpose of advocating the election or defeat of candidates for political office).
